MUHCRI
Medicine ULisboa for Health, Clinical Research and Innovation
Advancing health through
research, clinical insight,
and innovation.
Medicine ULisboa for Health, Clinical Research & Innovation (MUHCRI) is a structural unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon dedicated to patient-oriented research and the translation of scientific knowledge into real-world health impact. It brings together multidisciplinary expertise to connect discovery, clinical practice, and innovation in ways that improve care, inform policy, and benefit society.
Embedded in the unique ecosystem of the Centro Académico de Medicina de Lisboa (CAML), MUHCRI works at the intersection of academic excellence, clinical proximity, and collaborative science. This environment strengthens the link between biomedical research and healthcare delivery, creating the conditions for ideas to move effectively from bench to bedside — and back again.
OVERVIEW
A Community
united by a common
purpose
MUHCRI is a research community hub that unites investigators, clinicians, and partners around a shared mission: to promote, develop, and disseminate excellent research with practical application.
A Pillars for success
from bench to bedside
MUHCRI is built on three complementary value pillars: patient-oriented research that starts from real clinical needs and turns them into robust scientific questions; translational innovation that connects laboratory discoveries, clinical trials, and implementation in health services; and societal impact, ensuring that new knowledge improves population health, informs policy, and strengthens the sustainability of the health system.
World Class Facilities
embedded in a leading
academic medical campus
MUHCRI benefits from the integrated infrastructure of the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre, combining the resources of the Faculty of Medicine, the university hospital environment, and dedicated clinical research spaces. This ecosystem offers access to modern laboratories, specialized clinical trial facilities, and multidisciplinary care settings, enabling studies that are closely aligned with real-world practice and international standards of quality.
